The coast!

Aftering leaving CA, we drove all the way through Oregon. I loved Ashland. Anna likes Salem (state capital). We stayed just outside of Portland and visited Vancouver WA the next day. Without a guide, it's kind of hard to know which direction to turn but it didn't grab either of us right away.

We traveled up to Olympia which I kind of like (state capital, artesian wells, lots of water in every direction, stunning views of Mt. Rainer, place where Kurt Cobain wrote Nevermind!).
We took a quick look at Evergreen College- very small, super green and interesting school. For the fun of it, stopped in to an open house. The housing prices are similar to Flagstaff.
After all that looking and driving we headed west through Aberdeen (birthplace of Kurt Cobain- lots of Nirvana energy around this state!) and on to Ocean Shores- a funky beachside town. There are tsunami evacuation route signs all over and instructions in the hotel rooms what do in the event of an earthwake/tsunami. Kind of weird but very nice to fall asleep to the sound of crashing waves. And put on a sweater for the first time in months.
Yesterday we drove up the Olympic Pennisula to Bainbridge Island where we are visiting our great friends. Seeing Barney and Mishabae have been highlights of the vacation. Sure, there are lots of great places to see, but nothing compares to spending time with old friends. mmmmmmwwaaaaahhhhh!!!! xoxoxox!!!

Today, Mishabae and I went to a dye house in Seattle to pick colors for her yoga t-shirt line that she is launching very soon. It is a fabulous concept and will be very successful. Watch for her Pure Rasa items! We took a quick trip through West Seattle, which I REALLY like, Vashon Island (a 20 minute ferry ride from W. Seattle) and back to Bainbridge Island. The ferry gods were with us today... we drove right on the ferries, magically arriving at precisely the right time to sail, without even trying. It's great to be on vacation!
Missing you all!

Northern California

After leaving Napa, we took the winding road back to I-5. The temp ranged from a cool 101 in Napa to a sizzling 108 in Redding... at 6pm!We snaked up through Shasta-Trinity wilderness areas and watched the temp plummet. By the time we reached Weed it was only 75. That's where we
decided to sleep. The tiny community of Weed is nestled at the base of gigantic Mt. Shasta and it receives 65% of it's income from gag gifts from Weed (Legal Weed, a friend in Weed is a friend indeed...). There is a hottie named Frank who works at Taco Bell in Weed but could be at any 5 star restaurant or anywhere else. He plans to go to Norway to figure how they do everything so well. There is something about the name Frank that seems to make dogs and men special!

We met Diana, Quen's handler, and her cousin Jay, and visited with the amazing Queny! Diana is a very kind person and it's obvious that Quen is very attached to her. Jay, Diana's cousin, is Quen's playmate. At first Quen didn't recognize us but within a minute or so her tail began wagging and was giving us puppy hugs and jumping up on us. She's little bit chubby (but still s-e-x-y) and finally has that thick Golden Retriever coat. (She now sheds!) She is in good hands and has a nice life with Diana. She is a valuable companion and assistive animal to her owner- thanks to everyone who helped raise her.

on the road!

We are in Napa! Last night we spent in the hills above Oakhurst with our dear friend, Bernardo, for a fun night of great food, wine, and music. So much fun that I barely slept... somewhere around 4am drifted off for a bit. See cool outside bedside to the left!
Bernardo is like is a great white shark in a tiny fish bowl. Swimming about, flirting with old women, schmoozing stock brokers and head hunters, ordering the best possible halibut cuts from the fish guy, and on and on. He cannot take one step without seeing someone he knows.
Tomorrow morning we will see Queny and Diana. I'm very excited to see that little red dog!
Frank is doing well. He is living at the labrador spa (Erica's house) and making weekly visits to her daughter's school. Canine Co-pilots is planning to place him with an autisic boy in Michigan. I think going to a cold place is essential for a polar bear puppy.. Okay- off to sleep... another big day tomorrow. Our target location is Medford, OR.

newspaper?
I'm learning how to get the newspaper from my best friend, Daisy. I think it's more fun to take a detour than to be perfect...
